The lakes of "Lacs de l'Eau d'Heure" are located in Wallonia on the course of the river "Eau d'Heure", between the provinces of Hainaut and Namur. This area, consisting of five reservoirs, forms the largest artificial lake in Belgium. The site covers a total area of some 1,800 hectares - including more than 600 hectares of water, 600 hectares of forest and 600 hectares of meadows.
The lakes have several tourist attractions: beach, holiday villages (Golden Lakes Village), Aquacparc, trains, and even 'Le Crocodile Rouge' amphibious bus, tree climbing (Natura Parc), a diving center, the leisure center Falemprise (Le Relais de Falemprise) , a water golf course, windsurfing, visit to the Plate-Taille dam. A reception center is located near the dam.
There are a large number of options for hikers. This brochure describes 10 walks from short family walks of 2.2 km to long day trips of 24 km.
This is an ideal neighborhood for recreational cyclists. There are many kilometers of cycling routes around the lakes and the surrounding area. You can plan the route via the fietsnet (Flemish bicycle site).
In the vicinity are a number of places that are definitely worth a visit: Chimay, Les Grottes de Neptune, the steam train in Mariembourg and many other possibilities. The French border is also close by.
Finally, there are also a large number of good restaurants in the area where local specialties can be tasted.
